Mark Harmon recently sat down with PEOPLE and spoke about the lessons he learned during his 31 years of being married to Pam Dawber. The actor revealed that the secret to his marriage’s success is maturity.
“We were both in our thirties when we got married, so hopefully the stupid stuff we did earlier. That’s probably the closest I have to what the key is,” Mark Harmon said. The ‘NCIS’ star also revealed that even though he has little in common with Dawber, it actually contributed to the positive health of their relationship.
Mark Harmon even said that his wife was opposed to him playing Freddy Shoop in “Summer School,” a role that opened up a lot of doors for him in the industry. Part of the reason why he went against his wife’s advice is due to his desire to work with director Carl Reiner.
Now, after working in the industry for more than 40 years, Mark Harmon has developed quite the resume. He’s currently playing Leroy Jethro Gibbs in the hit crime-drama series “NCIS” that is currently on its sixteenth season.
Through its run, the show has managed to accumulate a large following thanks in part to the leadership of Mark Harmon. Unfortunately, a member of the team is set to leave the series if the character’s statements are anything to go by. The character in question is Ducky (David McCallum). In the episode titled “Bear and Cubs,” Ducky had this to say.
“I’m not entirely sure, but one thing I am certain of: My future will no longer include NCIS,” the physician told Mark Harmon’s character. “I’ve done all I have to do. It’s time for Dr. Palmer (Brian Dietzen) to be the permanent chief medical examiner. I’m sorry.”
While this may be goodbye for Ducky, IMDb states that McCallum still has four episodes left in the series, so fans can still expect him to stay around for a little while. As for Mark Harmon, he has yet to comment about McCallum’s possible exit and what the future holds for “NCIS” moving forward.
