Microsoft Won’t Release Any New Builds To Windows Insiders Until January

Microsoft recently rolled out a new build for Windows 10 Mobile users in the Insider Preview program. The company had said earlier that the Windows 10 update would be released to users of existing Windows Phone 8 and 8.1 handsets in December 2015. However, there has been a change of plan.

A company spokesperson told ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley that the upgrade will be rolled out in early 2016.

"This November we introduced Windows 10 to phones including brand new features such as Continuum and Universal Windows Apps with the introduction of the Lumia 950 and 950 XL. The Windows 10 Mobile upgrade will begin rolling out early next year to select existing Windows 8 and 8.1 phones”, the statement reads.

Gabe Aul, Corporate Vice President, Engineering Systems Team at Microsoft, announced the release of a Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 10586 yesterday, which will appear as 10586.36. Ars Technica reported that a new Insider build for desktops, 11082, has been also released yesterday. At present, Windows 10 Mobile is being shipped on the Lumia 950 and 950XL flagships and the low-end Lumia 550.

“I also want to set expectations for new builds for both PC and mobile between now and the end of 2015. This time of year many of us take the opportunity to spend time with family and take some vacation time, so the engineering team will be running at a slower pace and many of our key people who drive our flighting process will be out. This means we won’t be releasing any new builds to Windows Insiders until January, for both PC and mobile”, Aul said in an online post.
