The Supreme Court ruled against former President Donald Trump for the second time in an appeal regarding the January 6 riots at the Capitol. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi mocked the former president’s latest attempt to hide his records from the congressional committee.
Pelosi issued a statement on the ruling made by the Supreme Court against Trump, rejecting the former president’s request to have his records hidden from the committee. The California Democrat said that the high court made it clear that not even a former president is above the law while reiterating the committee’s work to get to the truth of the events of January 6.
“Today, the Supreme Court made it resoundingly clear that no one is above the law – not even a former president who incited a deadly insurrection,” said Pelosi in her statement.
“By again rejecting the former president’s attempts to hide documents related to January 6th, the Court’s decision is a victory for the truth, for the rule of law, and for the American people,” Pelosi continued.
“Reviewing these documents is essential to gaining the full picture of the events leading up to, during, and after the January 6th attack on our Democracy. Now that the Court has ended the former president’s unlawful and dangerous campaign to hide the truth from the American people, the House’s Select Committee to Investigate January 6th will continue its laser focus on finding the truth of that dark day and ensuring it never happens again.”
The Supreme Court has previously rejected Trump’s bid to shield a large set of records from his White House to the committee, striking down his claims of executive privilege. President Joe Biden has already waived the executive privilege of the related records.
Meanwhile, Pelosi has also condemned the ongoing conflict that is happening in Ukraine, as Russian President Vladimir Putin has now ordered military operations by his troops in the democratic nation. Prior to ordering military operations, Putin announced that the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk are now independent states.
Pelosi called Putin’s move on the regions seized by pro-Russia separatists “a very evil move” and compared the Russian leader to dictators like Adolf Hitler.
