RESTON, Va., Feb. 20, 2018 -- OVH US, a global hyper-scale cloud provider, today announced its support of the Children’s Science Center through a $50,000 donation. The funds will be used to support the ongoing operations of the Children’s Science Center and further enable the center’s vision of creating a full-scale, world-class children’s science museum to serve the Northern Virginia community.
Russell P. Reeder, President and CEO of OVH US, was inspired to offer OVH’s support to the organization after attending the center’s annual Founders Society Event where he learned how the center’s programs fill a critical learning need throughout the region.
“At OVH, we believe that ‘Innovation Is Freedom,’ and we understand that an investment in innovation is an investment in our future,” said Reeder. “To ensure a diverse and strong workforce in years to come, it is critical to introduce and encourage STEM education in early childhood. Our donation to the Children’s Science Center means that a love for STEM can be fostered in thousands more children throughout the Washington, D.C. area. These children are the future leaders of our companies and our country, and from where I’m standing, our future looks bright.”
Over the past year, more than 50,000 people have visited the Children’s Science Center Lab located at Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax, VA. In 2017, the center offered community programs to nearly 20,000 people in Northern Virginia. Overall, the center serves nearly 50 percent of the region’s Title 1 elementary schools through its Family Science Night program and Lab Discovery Days. The center also supports programs that serve underrepresented audiences in STEM such as Latina SciGirls.
“Located in the Northern Virginia technology corridor, we rely on remarkable leaders like OVH to elevate our mission and help inspire many more children in our region to love STEM learning,” said Nene Spivy, Executive Director of the Children’s Science Center. “The center is committed to serving all children in our region, and what is most powerful about OVH’s leadership is that they are not only a generous supporter, but a ready and enthusiastic advocate for the cause.”
In addition to the donation of funds, OVH employees will bring their talents to volunteer for Children’s Science Center programs and activities.
