Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, allegedly did not want Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, to become a part of the British royal family by marrying Prince William. Prince Charles’s wife reportedly had issues with the fact that Kate was not born into a royal bloodline.
These claims were recently shared by The Sun from Christopher Andersen’s 2016 book, titled “Game of Crowns: Elizabeth, Camilla, Kate, and the Throne.” Based on the excerpts from the book shared in the report, Camilla did not just simply dislike Kate — she purportedly made some efforts to stop her marriage with Prince William.
Andersen wrote that Camilla even asked for Prince Charles’ help to stop Prince William and Kate’s union in 2011. And according to the book, the Duchess of Cornwall had almost “broken up” the now well-loved royal couple.
In the book excerpts shared by The Sun, Camilla allegedly saw Kate Middleton as “lowly” and “dim” so she was deemed not fit to be Prince William’s wife. Andersen also alleges that the rift between the royals did not end after the 2011 royal wedding. The author wrote (via The Sun), “Beneath the surface, tensions mounted as the two queens-in-waiting protected the interests of their kings — the lackluster, benighted Prince of Wales and his wildly popular son — and their competing courts vied for the love of the people and the power that comes with it.”
Camilla was also reportedly threatened that Kate would take away her spotlight, especially after she got married to Prince William. Meanwhile, the book’s claims have not been addressed by the Kensington Palace since it got published in 2016.
Andersen’s claims may also come as a surprise to some fans of the royal family. Notably, however, rumors that the wives of Prince William and Prince Charles are not on good terms have also been reported on by papers and media outlets online. But if there was any feud between them, they probably learned to bury the hatchet over the years. Duchesses Kate Middleton and Camilla are seen at numerous events together and they seem to be getting along pretty well.
