‘Reign’ Season 3 Episode 16 Spoilers: “Clans” – Mary Struggles with New Complications in Violent Scotland

Adelaide Kane as Mary in The CW's 'Reign'

‘Reign’ season 3, episode 16 is set to follow Mary after she returns to Scotland after fleeing the turmoil in France. The episode, entitled “Clans”, will feature new complications not just for Mary but for the others as well.

The 16th episode’s synopsis posted on Carter Matt states, “When Mary (Adelaide Kane) arrives in Scotland, she is stunned by the treacherous world it has become and is forced her to keep her royal identity a secret until she learns who she can trust. When Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) jeopardizes her standing with an unbearable new suitor, Lola (Anna Popplewell) steps in to help, which causes the Queen to question Lola’s ulterior motives. Meanwhile, Charles (guest star Spencer MacPherson) secretly plots to relinquish Catherine (Megan Follows) of her power.”

Mary’s journey back to her homeland proved to be daunting enough as she struggled with external as well as internal conflicts. According to another article on Celebrity Dirty Laundry, Mary managed to sneak back to Scotland only to find it in turmoil. John Knox has triggered a violent uprising between the Protestants and Catholics.

Lord Narcisse (Craig Parker) also reminds her that she is a stranger to her people pushing Mary to keep her real identity secret in order to stay safe until she finds a better course of action.

Meanwhile in France, King Charles plans to oust his mother Catherine as queen regent following her accusations of treachery.

Other complications are also boiling up in Queen Elizabeth’s court when Lola tries to snatch up Han’s (Christopher Russell) affections in order to keep Elizabeth out of trouble. However, Lola’s real motives may be elusive to the young queen and Elizabeth may see Lola as a romantic rival.

The preceding episode, entitled “Safe Passage”, found Mary risking her life to escape back to Scotland after things took a turn for the worst in France. Mary decided to stay in France to offer her assistance to Catherine and Charles to protect them from an uprising of their soldiers after news of the massacre got out. However, Catherine insisted that Mary escape so she could rule her homeland again.

Meanwhile, Christophe killed Delphine after the latter recognized him. Bash (Torrance Coombs), in turn, killed Christophe and also learned of Catherine’s other dark secrets. He finally resigned as Deputy of France after attempting to strangle her during a confrontation.

Bash left the letter full of Catherine’s misdeeds to Charles and Claude, which triggered Charles to vow punishment for Catherine.

‘Reign’ is a historical fantasy-romance television series following the early years of Mary Queen of Scots. Season 3’s episode 16 is set to air on The CW on June 6, 2016.
