Fans are waiting for “Rick and Morty” season 5 and they were assured by the showrunners Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland that it will be coming as scheduled. They insist that they are on time so there is no need to worry about any delay.
In fact, they previously shared that they are even ahead of schedule as the COVID-19 pandemic has given them more time to work on the episodes. As proof, the “Rick and Morty” team is even working on the sixth and seventh seasons now.
The series’ anime sequel update
In any case, Adult Swim released an anime version of “Rick and Morty” earlier this year. It was a short film titled “Samurai and Shogun,” and it was directed and written by Kaichi Sato.
It was revealed that there is a plan to create a sequel for this anime. The news emerged after director Sato was interviewed by Otaku magazine ahead of the “Rick and Morty” season 5 premiere.
The director confirmed that the sequel is in the works while Roiland and Harmon are also working for the fifth installment. He said that he has many ideas for the sequel and they will definitely be expressed through a short film.
"We're currently planning a sequel to ‘Samurai and Shogun,’” he told the magazine when asked what he would like for the American anime fans to know. “I have a number of good ideas, so I definitely want to make them happen!"
He added that he would also love for his own ideas to be included in the main story of “Rick and Morty” rather than just in a short film version. “As a Japanese animator, I think I’m a person who’s quite on the alternative side, but going forward, I would like to work for both major and independent works,” he said.
Spoilers for season 5
In any case, as everyone waits for “Rick and Morty” season 5, many theories about the story are cropping up. One of the most popular topics is about Beth since she was revealed to have a clone in the last season.
The theory is that the Space Beth is the real one and the person living on Earth is actually the clone. As per Screen Rant, the Space Beth thinks she was a clone after finding an implant on her neck so she traveled to Earth to destroy Rick.
However, the Beth on Earth turned out to have the same implant so they are now confused as to who is real and the cloned. Rick could not recall who is the real one as well because he deliberately removed the labels from the cloning vats so he will not know which one is his real daughter.
With how the story unfolded, most fans now think that the Space Beth is the original. If this is true, “Rick and Morty” season 5 will surely be chaotic and perhaps, dramatic once the truth is revealed.
