Rivian, the Irvine, California-headquartered electric vehicle and automotive technology company, announced a recall for almost all of the pickup trucks it built. Based on the details that were posted by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall affects 12,212 various electric vehicles.
CNN Business reported that Rivian voluntarily issued the recall so it could fix the issue of a loose fastener. The automaker will tighten this part in the affected vehicles’ front suspension. Aside from the R1T pickup trucks, the brand’s SUVs and vans were also included in the recall.
It was reported that the company had already informed its customers about the recall. It sent out messages on Friday, Oct. 7, and this was confirmed by Rivian last week.
There were at least seven cases that may possibly be related to the issue in the recall, but Rivian clarified there had been no report of injuries. The electric vehicle maker also advised owners to contact them immediately once they noticed any unusual vibration or noises coming from the front of their units.
To fix the issue, Rivan is setting up some pop-up service areas in locations with a high number of Rivian owners. The automaker assured its customers that it has the capability to inspect all the affected model units and repair them within 30 days.
The repairs are totally free, and the company said the materials that will be used in the tightening of the bolts would not have a financial impact on the company as well. So far, this is the third recall for Rivian this year.
“Rivian Automotive, LLC is recalling certain 2022 R1T, R1S, and EDV vehicles. The fastener connecting the front upper control arm and steering knuckle may have been improperly tightened,” the NHTSA stated in the recall announcement.
As for the remedy, the department of transportation added, “Dealers will inspect and, as necessary, tighten the steering knuckle fastener, free of charge.”
Additional notification letters are set to be sent out to owners through mail on Nov. 24, 2022. Owners of the recalled units may also get in touch with Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4261 and state the number for this particular recall which is FSAM 997.
