“Sherlock” season 5 has yet to arrive even after three years of hiatus. Actually, when the drama announced it will go on indefinite leave, BBC Network did not guarantee that it will be back thus the fans are worried that it will be gone forever.
The last “Sherlock” episode aired in January 2017 and since then the only news about the detective drama were mere speculations. After years of waiting, the show’s producers are aware that fans are still not giving up and hoping that the fifth installment will still arrive thus over the years, they try to give them bits of updates through interviews.
Has BBC ordered a renewal yet?
The sad news is the fact that BBC Network has not renewed “Sherlock” season 5 yet. And what’s makes it even more disappointing for fans is that the TV network is not giving any update about the show. It has been quiet since the finale of season 4 was aired so fans don’t have any idea if it will be back or not.
Then again, some avid followers of the show insisted that there are indications that “Sherlock” season 5 will still return. They reasoned that the story has no ending yet and believe that the showrunners will not allow their show to leave without any closure. What’s more, “Sherlock” season 5 is still included in BBC’s programming lineup although it is currently on hiatus.
Moffat and Gatiss’ statements
And this is not all, Mark Gattis and Steven Moffat, the show creators, previously stated that they have plans to do more episodes. In fact, it was their original plan to produce more seasons after the fourth installment. Express pointed out that “Sherlock” season 5 is coming to BBC and Netflix because there are clear signs that say it will happen.
The best sign is probably Moffat and Gatiss’ statements where they mentioned that they still want to do more episodes. “Nobody has ever closed the door on ‘Sherlock,” Moffat told Radio Times in an interview on the red carpet. “I would be surprised if BBC will not order for the drama to return.”
Finally, Gattis also said that they are just waiting for the right timing to film “Sherlock” season 5. The cast also expressed their wish to work on the next season so there is no reason for the show to not return.
