Starbucks Hong Kong added new items to its menu offerings, and these are the new vegan options that will surely be appreciated by customers who prefer plant-based or animal-friendly food. This is the first time that the HK unit of the American coffee chain is serving vegan food to its patrons.
Starbucks Hong Kong was revealed to be selling plant-based seafood now in its stores. The Thai Style Crab Cake Salad is available in the company’s 170 store outlets in the country. The vegan crab cakes in the salad are being supplied by OmniFoods, a Hong Kong-based meat alternative food producer that was founded by David Yeung.
As per VegNews, the coffee shop’s new vegan salad is made with mixed fresh lettuce, tomato, pumpkin, pomelo pulp, and Omni crab cakes. It is served with a salad dressing made with fish sauce. The plant-based seafood salad dish was launched in partnership with OmniFoods, the food tech unit of Green Monday, a local vegan organization.
“We are thrilled to have Starbucks Hong Kong to be one of our first OmniSeafood launch partners,” the publication quoted Yeung as saying in a statement. “Besides the exciting menu item we are introducing, we trust this is the beginning of raising awareness that ocean preservation and reduction of seafood consumption should be high on everyone’s agenda in terms of combating climate change and ensuring food security for the planet.”
The Green Queen further reported that Starbucks Hong Kong’s new Thai Style New Crab Cake Salad is totally free from meat and dairy. Customers can simply choose to leave out the provided dressing if they are strict vegetarians since it is served separately.
The publication stated that this is the third collaboration between Starbucks and OmniFoods. Some months ago, the coffee giant added the plant-based OmniPork dishes to its menu, and this was not just in Hong Kong but in mainland China too.
Meanwhile, OmniFoods just introduced its seafood line under the OmniSeafood brand banner in September. The company released vegan alternatives, including Omni Classic Fillet, Omni Golden Fillet, OmniSalmon, OmniTune, and Omni Ocean Burger. These are currently being sold in supermarkets.
