Cartoon Network has yet to confirm the production of “Steven Universe” season 6 after more than a month since the latest installment wrapped up. Fans are now wondering whether they have seen the last of Steven.
Like in other TV shows, the only assurance fans can get whether their favorite series is renewed is when the network or its showrunners makes an official announcement. While this has not happened yet for “Steven Universe” season 6, there is still hope for it to be renewed following the statements of series creator Rebecca Sugar and executive producer Ian Jones-Quartey.
Sugar and Jones-Quartey previously addressed what would happen next without confirming “Steven Universe” season 6 just yet. They both have discussed in a podcast (via Den of Geek) what follows the story of the titular character after “Change Your Mind” and they both seem to be looking forward to doing more episodes of the animated series.
“I don't think it's a spoiler to say that this specific arc of Steven, 'Change Your Mind' definitively makes a definitive statement on Steven and who he is and what he thinks he is. And how he feels about it,” Jones-Quartey said. He also mentioned about “moving forward” from the events in the season 5 finale. Together with Sugar, they both promised fans that things “will be different” as if referring to the stories to unfold in “Steven Universe” season 6.
Jones-Quartey further explained that part of Steven's story, including events since the show's pilot in 2011, that started from the beginning ended in “Change Your Mind.” And for “Steven Universe” season 6, he hopes that fans will look forward to it differently. “There's a lot more to do. But, we're not coming back here, because Steven has really figured something out about himself. So this part of the story, you know, that's it,” he added.
