‘The Big Bang Theory’ Season 10 may be Series’ Last; Rumors of Full Movie Debunked

Cast of CBS' 'The Big Bang Theory'

‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 10 may be the popular television series’ final one. Rumors of a full-feature film were shut down by actor Kunal Nayyar saying that a transition from the small screen would be difficult due to technicalities.

According to ET, one of television’s most successful sitcoms may be coming to an end, with season 10 being the final run for Leonard, Penny, and Sheldon. Kunal Nayyar, who played Raj in the series, admitted during an interview at the MCM Comic Con in London on May 29 that he didn’t know what would become of the show after the incoming season.

Nayyar said, “Look, next season, as it stands on our contract, could be the last season of Big Bang Theory… To be completely honest … I know people are going to want to know what happens after season 10. I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Showrunner Steve Molaro also revealed during a previous interview that season 10 may be the final one but he stayed optimistic for the series stretching out past that. He said, "The reality is that maybe season 10 is the ending point. The real answer is I don't know and all I can do right now is go episode to episode and try to make each one the best that we can. There's still so many episodes to go. Even if hypothetically season 10 was the end, I wouldn't be focusing on that yet. That seems like something that would be dealt with way down the line."

The television series follows a group of friends living in Pasadena. It stars Johnny Galecki as the experimental physicist Leonard Hofstadter, Jim Parsons as child prodigy and theoretical physicist Sheldon Cooper, Kaley Cuoco as aspiring actress-turned-pharmaceutical representative Penny, Simon Helberg as aerospace engineer Howard Wolowitz, and Kunal Nayyar as astrophysicist Rajesh “Raj” Koothrappali. It was reported by E! that Galecki, Cuoco, and Parsons are possibly receiving $1 million per episode.

Rumors of a full-feature film have circulated but Nayyar said that this was unlikely. He explained, "It is a very difficult format to do for a movie because we shoot in front of a live studio audience with four cameras. So unless the movie was a two-and-a-half hour sitcom version of The Big Bang Theory, I don't think we could ever actually do a movie… We could do it on stage."

‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 10 is set to return to CBS in the fall. The show was created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady and first aired on CBS on 2007. Since its premiere, it has been nominated for 39 Primetime Emmy Awards.  It also won Parsons a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Television Series Musical or Comedy.
