Fans are going to see a lot more of brothers Marty and Rick Lagina as they continue to search for treasure and historical artifacts on Oak Island. The History network has renewed the reality TV series for another season, and Deadline has reported that “The Curse of Oak Island” Season 6 is going to feature a massive 30 hours of footage.
“History has renewed six of its biggest unscripted series, including a massive 30-hour Season 6 order for flagship The Curse of Oak Island, which ranks as cable’s top nonfiction series among total viewers in Live +3, averaging over four million viewers. It is believed to be one of History’s largest orders ever,” Nellie Andreeva said in her report for Deadline.
The episode count of the show has increased each season. The Season 1 only had five episodes, while the second season doubled that number with 10. Season 3 featured 13 episodes, Season 4 had 16, and Season 5 had 18. However, 30 episodes are far more than what viewers have expected.
Of course, there may be two-hour specials in “The Curse of Oak Island” Season 6 since the final episode count hasn’t been confirmed yet. Still, this is going to be the show’s most ambitious season.
In any case, filming for “The Curse of Oak Island” Season 6 has already started earlier this year and Oak Island resident Karen Publicover has kept fans informed about the progress on her “Oak Island from the Other Side of the Causeway” Facebook page.
Publicover has continued to share photos of the activities on Oak Island in the past few months, and in a recent post, she revealed that swamp works in Smith's Cove are still ongoing. Publicover also noted that the u-shaped cofferdam structure at Smith’s Cove is still in place.
“The Curse of Oak Island” Season 6 is scheduled to premiere on Nov. 13.
