The sixth book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series is still in the works. It has been nine years since the fifth book was released and fans are anticipating “The Winds of Winter” any time soon.
The book is long overdue and George RR Martin admitted that he could have finished it a long time ago. However, he was not able to do so and did not really explain the main reason for the delay. Then again, fans are convinced that he is so busy with other works so he did not have the time to write for “The Winds of Winter.”
Causes of the book delay
Some fans pointed out that since 2011, Martin has accepted many projects including the production of HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” This is a historical drama that was based on the “ASOIAF” series and it concluded with a total of eight seasons. It was disappointing that the story did not stay true to the original since GRRM has not written the actual ending of the story yet.
He also wrote other books and these were already published ahead of “TWOW” so these took away a lot of his time as well. The famous author also had many engagements from overseas and he almost never turns down an offer for a new position or invitations to events thus there are months that he really could not write the book.
Apparently, with his activities through the years, he got stuck in “The Winds of Winter.” Still, fans continue to wait up to this day so knowing that many people are disappointed and he felt bad too, he made a promise last year to finish the book by July this year. He posted on his blog that it will surely be in his hands at the time of the 2020 Worldcon but he failed to fulfill this promise once again.
GRRM assures fans he is focusing on “TWOW”
He missed the latest deadline he set himself and in a new update, he revealed that he would be focusing on completing “The Winds of Winter.” In fact, he is currently staying in the mountains to make sure there will be no destructions so he can finally finish the long-delayed book.
“I am spending long hours every day on ‘THE WINDS OF WINTER’ and making steady progress,” he wrote on his personal page. “I finished a new chapter yesterday, another one three days ago, another one the previous week.”
Now, with his progress, fans are hoping that the book will be completed very soon. This is also George RR Martin’s wish anyway. He wants to release “The Winds of Winter” as soon as possible so he is now making extra efforts to make it happen.
