‘The Winds of Winter’ Release Date: George RR Martin Gives Update on Novel; Here Are the Latest Details

“The Winds of Winter” is still not around and it has been seven years since the last novel in the series “A Song of Ice and Fire” was released. Fans have surely been waiting for so long already, but winter is still not coming?

After numerous missed deadlines and delays, “The Winds of Winter” has yet to hit the shelves. Speculations about its publishing date also make rounds often these days but so far, none of the information seems to be true.

Lately, there have been fresh rumors that George RR Martin has already completed the book and is just waiting for the right time for its release. To stop such stories from circulating further, the author released a statement through his own web page.

In April, “The Winds of Winter” author wrote on his blog: “Winter is not coming… not in 2018, at least. You’re going to have to keep waiting for The Winds of Winter.”

George RR Martin also recently made a rare appearance at the Sci-Fi WorldCon, held on Aug. 16. He was interviewed at the event and was asked for any “The Winds of Winter” update. Although not much was said, he readily shared a bit of info.

When sci-fi illustrator John Picacio asked him, "Where you at with ‘The Winds of Winter,’ how's it coming?" the author simply replied, “Working on it. Working on it, believe me, you'll know when it's done. It'll be the shout that is heard 'round the world.”

George RR Martin’s full interview is available on ABC7 News and fans can watch it to get more tidbits about the famous author’s projects, including “The Game of Thrones.

For now, while waiting for “The Winds of Winter,” Martin is inviting everyone to get his “Fire & Blood” book first. It is about the Targaryen family’s history and will be out on Nov. 20.
