‘This Is Us’ Season 3 Episode 4 Spoilers, Air Date: Jack’s Terrible Past Finally Revealed

When it was finally revealed how Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) died, it left a scar in people’s hearts that only a happy, smiling Jack could soothe. However, “This Is Us” Season 3 Episode 4 is about to take a hammer to those hearts and make a dent by putting the focus on the Pearson patriarch’s days in Vietnam. If the show can make everyday life an absolute tear-jerker, fans should be afraid of what it can do with war.

In its recap of the most recent episode of the series, Show Snob notes how Kevin (Justin Hartley) was asked by Terry Gross about his father’s experiences. This is the spark that leads to the events of “This Is Us” Season 3 Episode 4, where Jack becomes the center of focus. Perhaps it won’t be for the entire episode, but a major plot point will be the young Pearson’s decision that will come with consequences.

This will make “This Is Us” Season 3 Episode 4 both a blessing and a curse for fans, for obvious reasons. On the one hand, it means that viewers will see more of Jack when he was still alive and will still have years of awkward happiness to look forward to.

On the other hand, “This Is Us” Season 3 Episode 4 will also mean that Jack’s harrowing experiences during the Vietnam war will be presented for everyone to see. Considering how he absolutely shuts down any attempts at discussing that part of his life immediately, it’s clear that some very bad things happened. This will undoubtedly be another way for the show to drown fans in tears.

As Carter Matt notes, though, this will also be a good opportunity to showcase other aspects of Jack’s life. After all, there are still a lot of things that people don’t know about him, and fans simply need to know everything. They can start with “This Is Us” Season 3 Episode 4 when it airs on Oct. 16.
