“Westworld” season 3 is in the works after the president of HBO programming, Casey Bloys, announced the series’ renewal in May. He noted that the show's creators and executive producers, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, are outstandingly talented plus the show has an excellent crew so it is a great pleasure to work with them again.
“From the inspired storytelling to the incredible visuals, we are so excited to see where the next chapter will take us,” Bloys said via a press release. While “Westworld” season 3 is still in production, its showrunners already revealed a ton of details about the drama. Nolan and Lisa Joy also dropped hints about what can be expected from the new installment, and here are some of the things they shared.
Setting for Season 3
In season 2’s finale, a new world opened up as the revolutionaries finally escaped from the park. As said by Nolan and Lisa Joy, “Westworld” season 3 will continue with the Westworld inhabitants exploring the world beyond the park’s premises. They are now out of its borders and had entered a new world, but it is not clear which territory they ended up in.
“From the beginning, we knew we wanted to explore other worlds in the park,” Joy told The Hollywood Reporter. “We also knew the one world we would start to see little glimpses of throughout the first two seasons was the real world, and that we would get there eventually - and when we did, it would be a whole new experience.”
Moreover, the show creators did not mention if the remaining parks are going to be revealed in “Westworld” season 3. As of now, the viewers already know about three parks, namely Westworld, Shogunworld and The Raj. It is yet to be seen if the series’ third season will finally identify and show the other three parks.
Cast Lineup
Dolores Abernathy (Evan Rachel Wood) and Maeve Millay (Thandie Newton) are most likely to be in “Westworld” season 3. This is because the two women previously shared that they now have the same pay as their male co-stars in the drama.
Wood related that she found out she was set to get equal pay to Anthony Hopkins and Ed Harris for the third season of “Westworld.”
“I was just told that you know, ‘Hey you’re, you’re getting equal pay.’ And I was like [gasp]. And I almost got emotional,” Wood told The Wrap. “I was like, ‘I have never been paid the same as my male counterparts. Never, never.'”
Apart from Wood and Millay, it is also safe to assume that Jeffrey Wright (Bernard Lowe), Ed Harris (Man in Black), Luke Hemsworth (Ashley Stubbs) and Katja Herbers (Host Emily) are coming back as well. Fans can also expect new additions to the cast.
Release Date
Jonathan Nolan said that they want to take all the time they need in the production of “Westworld” season 3 so it may be a while before it can be completed. He added that fans might have to wait for 18 months. Does it mean it will return in 2020?
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the showrunner replied, “We’re not interested in doing the compromised version, we want to take all the time we need to get it right.” Thus, fans may have to wait a bit more before the show premieres again.
