Julienne van Loon's most recent book is The Thinking Woman (NewSouth 2019). She is the author of three critically acclaimed novels: Road Story, (2005), Beneath the Bloodwood Tree (2008), and Harmess (2013). She holds a Vice Chancellor's Principal Research Fellowship with the Writing and Publishing program at RMIT University (2015-2019). Other honours include The Australian Vogel's Award (2004) for Road Story and an appointment as Honorary Fellow in Wriitng with the University of Iowa (2017). In collaboration with Ross Watkins (University of the Sunshine Coast), she co-edits the scholarly journal TEXT.

Julienne has also supervised a number of award-winning postgraduate research students in the creative writing area. Publications by her graduate students include Sam Carmody's 'The Windy Season' (Winner of the Readings Prize for New Australian Fiction), Jacqueline Wright's 'Red Dirt Talking' (Winner of the TAG Hungerford Award), Rachel Robertson's Reaching 'One Thousand' (joint-winner of the Calibre Essay Prize and shortlisted for the National Biography Award), Natasha Lester's 'Things Left Over, After' (winner of the TAG Hungerford Award) and Yvette Walker's 'Letters to the End of Love' (shortlisted for the NSW Premier's New Writing and WA Premier's First Novel awards).
