Canada Research Chair in Urban Change and Social Inclusion, University of Waterloo
My research is focused on topics of gentrification, neighbourhood change and mobility, with a particular emphasis on how these topics intersect. I use a variety of qualitative methods including photography to better understand the challenges and complexities of contemporary cities, how they have changed and how people experience them. Originally from Toronto, I lived in the Netherlands between 2004 - 2017 and my research examines both North American and European cities. A major focus of my current research examines how a new light rail line in my current home of Kitchener-Waterloo is impacting gentrification, displacement and neighbourhood change along its route.
