Mariachiara's research focuses on globalisation, skills, labour markets, foreign direct investments (FDIs), technological changes, and regional development. Her research has been published in international journals, such as: in the Journal of Economic Geography; Cambridge Journal of Regions, Economy and Society and International Journal of Finance and Economics. She is currently a Co-Investigator of a British Academy/Leverhulme Research Grant (SRG 2018-19) and she is leading the working group on policy of a COST Action (CA18214) on geography of new working spaces and the impact on the periphery.
