Publisher 2K Games is rumored to announce a new game that could rival “Rocket League.” The upcoming project is reportedly called “Gravity Goal” with comparable gameplay to Psyonix’s vehicular soccer game.
Noted gaming insider Tom Henderson reports via eXputer that “Gravity Goal” had its closed alpha test in late 2021, making it possible for the game to be announced “in the coming months.” It is unclear, though, if “Gravity Goal” is just a working title or if it has been finalized as the game’s official name.
While “Gravity Goal” is expected to directly compete with “Rocket League,” the report notes that there will be significant tweaks to its gameplay. While Psyonix’s game uses cars, the upcoming 2K Games title will reportedly feature bikes with designs that would remind players of the sci-fi movie franchise “TRON.”
Henderson said he was shown images of “Gravity Goal” that revealed players will be able to attack their opponents by throwing glowing discs that look like hockey pucks. Once a player is hit with these discs, their bike would either slow down or hit a full stop. The arena and bikes are said to have a futuristic design and “high-energy-based vibe with bright colors.”
“Gravity Goal” is also expected to be similar to “Rocket League” in some aspects. For one, the main objective in the game is to move around with the bikes and use the vehicle to navigate the ball and hit it to score a goal.
Take-Two Interactive, 2K Games’ parent company, announced in 2020 that it has 93 games planned to be released. Take-Two president Karl Slatoff reiterated that plan in an earnings call last year and provided a breakdown of these projects, including 63 with “core gaming experiences,” 17 “mid-core,” and 13 casual games. Slatoff noted that 26 out of the 93 games will have a free-to-play model, and Henderson suggests “Gravity Goal” could be one of them.
While there is a chance for 2K Games to announce “Gravity Goal” in the coming months, the report did not mention a potential release date aside from suggesting that it could launch “soon.” But the leaker reported that the “Rocket League” competitor is planned to launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
