In the U.S. it’s an unfortunate fact that violence against women is increasing every year. With the availability of legal firearms and the ability to carry concealed weapons in many states, more women are choosing to be proactive in regards to their own protection.
Avoiding unsafe situations will only protect you for so long. There is no way to tell when you may end up having to protect your life or the lives of your family. Traditionally, women have accounted for less than 10% of gun owners. However, in the past decade, that number has dramatically increased.
Women are taking the power of protection into their own hands more than ever before. Gun training enrollment and CCW insurance policies for women have jumped through the roof, with several factors contributing to the increase. Let’s look at a few of the reasons why more women are carrying guns.
Safety
Dangerous situations are an unfortunate reality for women. Whether they are single or married, there are many times when they end up alone and in charge of their protection. With the proper training and legal qualifications, women take a proactive stance on their protection by carrying guns. Carrying a weapon can give many women a sense of power and peace of mind. Armed women may never have to draw their weapon, but they will have it if needed.
Training Availability
Owning a gun doesn’t mean that the knowledge and skill to operate a weapon are in place. Women are generally less experienced with firearms and can be easily intimidated by owning a gun. Every gun owner must register for the proper training. Anything that happens when carrying a firearm is the owner’s responsibility, so it is crucial that owners are prepared before carrying.
In the past decade, more online and in-person weapons training courses have been created for women participants. Women interested in carrying a gun are now welcomed into various training programs that will help them learn what they need to know.
Independence
Women have traditionally relied on their partner or male family members to ensure their safety. In these modern times, women are more independent than ever before, resulting in the need for self-protection. Women who choose to carry a weapon need not have any restrictions in their lives. They can go where they want when they want without the assistance of anyone to protect them. Women who carry a weapon claim that they feel more secure and confident than ever.
Sports
Sport shooting has opened up in the past two decades to include some phenomenal female sharpshooters. The world of target shooting and hunting has undergone a shift in popularity to include more women than ever before. To be a confident markswoman, you need the right training, confidence, and knowledge. More women are carrying weapons now, not necessarily for protection but as a way to enjoy more outdoor angling sports.
Women have many reasons to carry a firearm, including personal protection, increased confidence and independence, and sport. Whatever the reason, carrying a weapon requires the proper training and licensing to keep you safe and protected.
