AMC Networks is set to roll out a cheaper subscription option for its streaming service, and this is an ad-supported tier. The global entertainment company will add the new tier this coming October.
Its AMC+ streaming platform will launch a subscription with ads, and this was announced by AMC Networks on Monday, April 17. The company said that the new option would be a permanent offering for its subscribers.
According to Fox Business, the new tier will provide users of the AMC+ streaming service with more flexible plans. The entertainment firm’s chief commercial officer, Kim Kelleher, said that this offering is a big moment for them as well as their advertisers because the additional tier “creates a fully-ad supported distribution ecosystem" that lets advertisers purchase AMC Network’s shows and franchises in a more effective way.
Then again, the exact rates for AMC+ ad-supported plan were not indicated in the announcement. Still, it will be lower rates, but people can still enjoy a full line of content from AMC, Sundance TV, BBC America, IFC, and more.
The addition of this cheaper tier comes at the perfect time as AMC+ streaming rivals such as Netflix, Warner Bros. Discovery’s HBO Max and The Walt Disney Co.’s Disney Plus are already offering ad-supported plans as well. They all have similar options with ads but their rates are still different.
AMC Network’s CCO said in a press release, “With our new series content, library titles and other targeted streaming platforms that are all bundled into AMC+, partners can move beyond individual shows and even series and choose to ‘own’ whole genres and franchises, and drive messaging to target audiences no matter what they are watching or where.”
He added, “We have never been able to offer this level of sweeping yet highly focused reach before in such an effective and comprehensive way.”
