Advanced Micro Devices, or more commonly known as AMD, is making headlines for its soaring stock prices. While that is happening, a possible information leak was also reported recently that could be offering the first glance at an unreleased 12-core processing chip.
The mystery AMD chip first appeared in UserBenchmark.com that was first spotted by Twitter user Apisak. The tested processing chip, as expected, did not have a name yet but was only labeled with the AMD logo and codenamed 2D3212BGMCWH2_37/34_N.
Extreme Tech explains the codename indicates this particular chip is most likely a second prototype (“2”) and is built for desktop computers (“D”). The number “3” reportedly hints it will be released as part of the 3rd-generation Ryzen CPUs while the letter “C” is believed to indicate it is a 12-core chip.
In the summary of the benchmark test result, the site comments that the 12-core AMD chip had performed “above expectations.” It is deemed a powerhouse for “everyday tasks such as web browsing, office apps, and audio/video playback.” But, more importantly, it is eyed as a great component for rigs meant to support 3D gaming.
The UserBenchmark listing also confirms that the unreleased 12-core AMD chip is based on the company's AM4 microprocessor socket platform. Aside from the 12-core chip, AMD is also expected to release a 16-core new-generation Ryzen chip this year.
On other related news, an AMD Radeon graphics card was also recently spotted in the wild. An unknown graphics card, only identified as “Generic VGA(1x)” was recently tested with an AMD Ryzen 7 2700X. TechRadar speculates that it could be the first-ever look on the performance of AMD Radeon Vega VII.
The rumored AMD graphics card scored 19,210 in Fire Strike. This is slightly slower than Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 that scored 22,027 when tested with an Intel Core i7-8700K. Whether AMD will use updates to improve these numbers is still unknown. Both the 12-core chip and graphics card spotted in unofficial benchmark tests are expected to be released in 2019.
