TORONTO, Sept. 1, 2016 -- Accessible Media Inc. (AMI) announced today its robust programming schedule for the 2016 fall season, featuring a variety of new comedies, dramas and reality programs alongside returning favourites, AMI original programs and an extensive collection of documentaries. Additionally, AMI-tv will once again partner with CBC to provide coverage of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games throughout September.
"We're very pleased with the schedule we've put together for the coming year," says Brian Perdue, Director of Programming for AMI-tv. "We've worked diligently to better understand what our audience is looking for and we believe that we've compiled the perfect mix to ensure that there's something for everyone, while maintaining our mandate of making accessible media for all Canadians."
AMI-tv will air a total of 22 hours of coverage of the 2016 Paralympic Games on CBC including the opening ceremony on September 7 at 6:30 p.m. ET and the closing ceremony on September 18 at 6 p.m. ET. All content will be made accessible to audience members who are blind or partially sighted with live described video. Also in September, catch the Toronto Blue Jays in action as the race for the pennant continues with live described baseball on AMI-tv on the 25, 27 and 29.
The fall programming schedule will officially kick off on Monday, September 12 with the premiere of AMI-tv's flagship original program AMI This Week at 7:30 p.m. Hosts Molly Burke and Anthony McLachlan are back along with a talented group of AMI presenters to share unique stories from coast to coast. Plus, for viewers who can't get enough ATW, AMI is pleased to introduce ATW: Weekend Edition, airing Fridays at 11:30 p.m. Unwind from the work week with Molly and Anthony as they share more people driven stories from across the country in a more easygoing and spontaneous setting.
Returning favourites including Law and Order: SVU, Downton Abbey and House will pick up where they left off on AMI-tv, premiering the week of September 12. New programs for the 2016 fall season include Heartland, Schitt's Creek, Food Factory, Income Property and Magnum, P.I., premiering the same week. Parenthood, a drama that follows the ups and downs of being a parent, will debut the following week, September 19, while the new season of Murdoch Mysteries begins in October. As always, Saturday is movie night on AMI-tv and viewers can enjoy an array of Hollywood films with described video at 9 p.m. and midnight.
For viewers who appreciate more in depth, investigative programming a new season of W5 kicks off Saturday, September 24 and the fifth estate returns in October. Additionally, AMI-tv will air national and international documentaries covering a variety of topics on a daily basis throughout the 2016 season.
