It’s official. Becoming ubiquitous is now the goal that video game developers are starting to adapt, even those with exclusivity deals. The most recent to announce a port of its game to the Nintendo Switch is Studio Wildcard. The game makers confirmed that their dinosaur survival simulator, ARK: Survival Evolved will be coming to the portable console soon.
With the Switch becoming so wildly popular from the get-go, many third-party developers have had to swallow their words after predicting that it would fail miserably. Now, studios are lining up to either create new games for the console or to port their own titles to the unit. In the case of ARK, the developers announced that a port is currently in the works, Game Spot reports.
This is the second piece of news about a port of the game coming to a more portable platform, with a mobile version of ARK also recently being announced. That particular version will be free-to-play, but the Switch port will likely cost money to play just as it would on other platforms.
In any case, ARK is currently one of the most popular games on Steam, at least as far as player engagement goes. The title hasn’t reached the same mainstream success as something like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds or Fortnite Battle Royale has, but the game has built enough of a fan base that helps keep it near the top spot of the digital distribution platform.
The game has also since been made available on the PS4 and the Xbox One, and the format for the Switch port will follow those on the console. This is expected to boost the player numbers of the game, which is already seeing a considerable growth on the platforms that it does exist on already.
Having 13 million players that are riding dinosaurs, building settlements, and basically just trying to survive can be taxing enough. With the Switch player base still growing rapidly, the developers of ARK will certainly have a lot of work on their hands.
