‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ delivered a surprising two-part finale that set the pacing and storyline for the upcoming season 4. The new season may introduce brand new heroes and villains into the popular series.
According to Vulture, the season’s two-part finale gave rise to new conflicts as well as more complications for its characters. It followed Daisy “Skye” Johnson (Chloe Bennet) and Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) as they are apparently stranded on Maveth, an alien planet light years away from Earth. While Daisy attempts to fix a shuttle in hopes of getting back home, Coulson tells her that they were already on Earth.
Daisy then wakes up and realizes that it was all a nightmare. Bennet’s character is so engulfed in shame and guilt that she tries to sleep everything off in a containment unit. Meanwhile, the other protagonists are victorious in stopping Hive (Brett Dalton) from initiating the final phase of his devious plans – detonating a nuke over Earth. However, Hive’s plan B results in turning the agents into Alpha Primitives who aid in his escape and more series of complications occur.
Daisy begs Hive to let her help him and decides to make an ultimate sacrifice for the greater good and decides to pilot Hive and the Zephyr to outer space where she would proceed to detonate the nuke. In the end, Lincoln (Luke Mitchell) foils Daisy’s plans of redemption and throws her out of the Quinjet to take the responsibility as his own. Daisy’s vision comes true when the jet detonates killing both Lincoln and Hive.
The episode flashes forward to six months later. Daisy has gone rogue and has taken the identity of notorious vigilante “Quake”.
According to IGN, season 4 may introduce a new mix of heroes as well as villains. Possible characters to make it on the popular television series are speculated to include Karnak, Clay Quartermain, Damage Control, The Wrecking Crew, Titania, Songbird, and Jimmy Woo.
Meanwhile, Dalton expressed his thoughts over his character’s death Hive. According to Den of Geek, he said that having Hive off the show would be “quite sad” and that he hoped it was “not the case”. The probability of Hive surviving a nuclear blast and making a surprising comeback in season 4 seems to be low to null.
‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ is based on the Marvel organization of the same name. It follows the members of a peacekeeping spy agency and is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The series has been renewed for a fourth season.
