Airasia farm will set up a 557-meter warehouse in the city of Kota Kinabalu in the second quarter to serve as a Digital Agri Center, cold chain facility, office space, and training space for farmers and small and medium enterprises in Sabah.
When completed, the warehouse will be able to accommodate tons of fresh produce and can also be utilized as a quality control measure, says airasia farm CEO Joanna Ibrahim.
Sorting and distributing fresh produce with cold chain services ensures freshness and readily available stocks to avoid losses through supply disruptions and helps ensure food security, Ibrahim added.
Launched in June, airasia farm, AirAsia's fresh produce e-commerce platform, lets farmers connect directly to businesses and eliminate middlemen. It started operating in Sabah in November with the goal of helping make the state a leading agriculture export hub in Asia.
