Last fall, the tech rumor mill was filled with reports that Apple was gearing up to release the AirPods 3. In late October, however, the company turned out to release a new truly wireless earbud it officially called the AirPods Pro. Now, there are reports claiming that the AirPods 3 is still in Apple’s pipeline and could be announced before 2020 ends.
AirPods 3 release date rumors: Will AirPods Pro get its successor soon?
There is no doubt that Apple would release refreshed models of the AirPods in the future, especially following its market success last year and the high expectations in its 2020 sales. However, there is still the question of when that would happen since Apple was quite unpredictable with its approach last year. The company released the second-generation AirPods last March and then immediately followed up with the launch of the AirPods Pro last October.
Now, reports claim that it would not take long before Apple unveils the AirPods 3. A couple of articles online even point to a release date window sometime in the second half of 2020. As mentioned, AirPods Pro will get its rightful successor, and the chance of that happening in 2020 cannot be ruled out as well. But with not much proof to go on at this point, it is best to take said reports with a pinch of salt.
It should also be noted that well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously listed the potential new products Apple will roll out in 2020, and it did not include an AirPods 3. What’s in Kuo’s list are “high-end” Bluetooth-supported headphones that MacRumors suggested could be the same rumored device as the over-ear headphone Bloomberg has previously mentioned.
On the other hand, not having any information about the AirPods 3 at this point does not necessarily mean it is not in Apple’s pipeline for 2020. It can be recalled that the AirPods Pro reports from reliable sources only came out a couple of months before its actual release date.
AirPods Pro specs: Why it could still be one of the best earbuds throughout 2020
Apple fan or not, it cannot be denied that the company is leading in the truly wireless earbuds market. That is also thanks to the release of a well-equipped device that is the AirPods Pro. Its main feature is the Active Noise Cancellation that can also be tuned down to the Transparency mode. Its Adaptive EQ and customizable silicone tips are also some features exclusive to the AirPods Pro and are not available on its predecessors.
