CHICAGO, March 08, 2016 -- Allscripts (NASDAQ:MDRX) and AssistRx have agreed to a partnership that will focus on technology solutions to accelerate collaboration among providers, payers and life sciences organizations to improve population health. Specifically, the two organizations will focus on improving the efficiency and speed of prescribing specialty medications in the U.S market.
According to the National Center for Public Analysis, specialty pharmaceuticals account for only one percent of prescriptions nationally, but represent about twenty-five percent of prescription spending due to the complexities related to delivering these medications to patients. Allscripts and AssistRx plan to deploy a new specialty medication services platform that streamlines the processes related to prescribing, distributing and administering specialty medications. The functionality will integrate into Allscripts electronic health records (EHRs) to provide an efficient and timely workflow that connects prescribers to a network of fulfillment entities and gives patients faster access to their prescribed specialty medications – moving toward the goal of improved population health.
AssistRx’s founders have significant experience in the specialty pharmaceutical industry, both in caring for patients and in refining the processes related to referrals, consents, authorizations, distribution and more. AssistRx develops cutting-edge software that helps improve patient adherence by improving the flow of information among stakeholders.
“AssistRx is honored to work alongside Allscripts to deliver a solution that will help streamline the complexities of delivering specialty medications to patients in a timely manner to help achieve quality outcomes,” said Jeff Spafford, Chief Executive Officer, AssistRx. “By creating a centralized platform focused on specialty medications, it will be much easier for providers and patients to access the information they need.”
“The exponential growth of specialty prescriptions means that providers and patients need a simple and efficient way to access resources from multiple specialty pharmaceutical companies,” said Allscripts Senior Vice President and General Manager, Payer & Life Sciences Business, Faisal Mushtaq. “The partnership between Allscripts and AssistRx will help provide the meaningful outcomes required to drive toward lower-cost, higher-quality population health.”
