“Altered Carbon” season 2 is expected to continue the plotline that was left hanging when season 1 concluded in February. When the show comes back, it is expected to answer some of the burning questions like “Who will survive?”
Although the finale provided closure to most of the cliffhangers and narratives, there are still some edges that need clarification so there are many expectations from “Altered Carbon” season 2. Netflix renewed the program in July to continue its adaptation of Richard K. Morgan’s cyberpunk novel.
According to The Verge, “Altered Carbon” season 2 will feature a new face as it is set to replace Joel Kinnaman. It was reported that Anthony Mackie, who is known for his character as Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, is going to take on the lead role as Takeshi Kovacs.
Story
In the first season, Laurens Bancroft’s (James Purefoy) killer was revealed and the viewers also came to know a lot about Takeshi Kovacs (Joel Kinnaman) through a backstory. So, what will happen next?
At the recent MCM Comic-Con in London, the novel's writer, Morgan, said that showrunner Laeta Kalogridis has been very polite and shared that unlike the other novel-based shows, the production team comes to him for feedback and suggestions. He shared that from the actor selection to the script, Kalogridis tried to make him involved in the whole process – from start to end -- so it was very nice.
“There was a very real sense of involvement. Those who have read the book and seen the show would have to agree it’s been a very respectful adaption in the sense that there’s almost nothing in the book that doesn’t show up in the show in some shape or form,” Express quoted Morgan as saying.
He added, “So they captured the feel of it very well. I don’t think I could have asked for a much more honorable adaptation. I’m delighted with it.”
With that said, it seems that viewers who have read the original novel can expect the next scenes to be what exactly is written in the book. Meanwhile, Laeta Kalogridis hinted that there will still be big changes in “Altered Carbon” season 2 despite being faithful to plotlines in the novel.
She said that she altered some of Morgan’s characters and they will continue to do so if needed for the next installments to come. Besides, doing this may extend the story and more seasons can happen.
"The second book involves a worldwide war with nuclear explosions, some space travel, a giant alien dreadnought and an interstellar fight between aliens, she told Variety. “We want to do something surprising with the second season that is not in the same place with the same people.”
Air Date
There is no specific release date yet but based on predictions, “Altered Carbon” season 2 may be out in February 2019 at the earliest.
