In the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show, Amazon got a lot of attention due to the unveiling of its suite of smart assistant products. This year, Amazon is going even further, prompting several in the media to believe that the American retail giant is going to absolutely dominate the event thanks to the proliferation of Alexa.
Other companies are showing off their own versions of smart assistants at the 2017 CES, including Google, Microsoft, and Apple, Time reports. However, out of all the major players in the field, Amazon has shown a surprising level of presence even without actually attending the event.
Those who have been following the artificial intelligence and machine learning trend will have some idea of far Alexa has proliferated. However, it’s difficult to get a good appreciation of just how far without seeing all of the products that sport the AI in one place.
At the CES, Alexa can be found in everything, including cars, smartphones, robots, appliances and home electronics, and even security systems. This isn’t to say that the other companies don’t have a stake in any of those industries either, but they don’t even come close to the level that Amazon managed to spread its smart assistant.
Some of the companies that now count Alexa as an onboard companion for their products include Ford, LG, Whirlpool, and Lenovo. Amazon isn’t about to stop there, however, as it is currently in negotiations with other major players to expand its reach.
Forbes notes how the fast-maturing nature of the Internet of Things industry is contributing most to the growth of Alexa. Some of the markets that are taking an interest in smart assistant even include underwear manufacturers, which Amazon is sure to have made note of by now.
The 2017 CES isn’t over yet, but many are already pegging Amazon as the clear winner of this round. On that note, Google and Microsoft do have a lot to offer as well.
