American Pathology Foundation (APF) Announces 2017 Annual Meeting

LAGUNA BEACH, Calif., June 13, 2017 -- The American Pathology Foundation (APF), a non-profit professional society devoted to the business and management of pathology, announces its partnership with the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) for the third year to co-locate their annual meetings. The 2017 Annual Meeting will take place Sept. 6-8 in Chicago, Illinois. The conference will be headlined by two distinct keynote sessions from leaders on critical issues and emerging trends affecting pathology and laboratory medicine today.

Wednesday’s keynote session “Global Access to Healthcare in Times of Change” with U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator Deborah L. Birx, MD, will focus on how in an increasingly connected world, putting patients first not only means caring for them in our local communities, it also presents us with a moral obligation to provide care for people in need across the United States and in resource-limited areas around the world.

Thursday’s keynote session “The Right Diagnosis Through Advanced Analytics” will feature Colin C. Pritchard, MD, PhD, and Michael A. Caligiuri, MD. Dr. Pritchard is the associate director of the genetics and solid tumors laboratory at the University of Washington (UW) Medical Center that services the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), as well as a UW assistant professor of laboratory medicine. Dr. Caligiuri is the director of The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, chief executive officer of Ohio State’s James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, and holds the Nationwide Enterprise Foundation Chair in Cancer Research. Together, they will discuss how in an effort to transition from volume- to value-based healthcare, leading diagnostic providers are looking into innovative solutions to combine patients’ test results with personalized data to deliver actionable predictive insights to improve clinical and quality outcomes. This session will speak to advanced analytics supporting “the right diagnosis” through an in-depth discussion of expert experiences and views on the future of personalized care.
