‘America’s Next Top Model’ cycle 23 is set to debut on VH1 as a reboot on December 12. It will be hosted by Rita Ora, who is taking over Tyra Banks. Celebrity appearances include Amber Rose, Zendaya, and Jason Derulo.
According to Allure, VH1 dropped an extended trailer for the upcoming 23rd cycle of the reality television series ‘America’s Next Top Model.’ The show’s cancellation on The CW was confirmed last October 2015 after a 22-season run under host Tyra Banks but was picked up by VH1 for a reboot to be hosted by British singer and actress Rita Ora.
The judging panel has also been revamped and consists of model Ashley Graham, celebrity stylist Law Roach, and ‘Paper’ magazine chief creative officer Drew Elliot. Banks will return as executive producer.
In the trailer, Banks declares, “I’m not looking for a traditional model and I’m not looking for a social media model - I’m looking for both.” It also featured Ora’s debut as the new host and introduced the 14 new female contestants.
According to the Huffington Post, the new contestant line-up may be racially diverse but still lacks body diversity, which has been openly advocated by Graham herself. Graham is best known as a model for plus-size clothing and was the first plus-size model to appear on the cover of ‘Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.’
While hosting the Miss USA pageant earlier this year, Graham announced, "Pageants now, I'm hoping, are going to start putting curvy and plus-size women in front of the camera." The winner for cycle 23 will receive $100,000 as well as a commercial feature on Rimmel London, a spread in Paper magazine and a one-year talent deal with VH1.
Meanwhile, a host of celebrity guests are scheduled to make appearances in cycle 23 episodes. These include model and fashion designer Amber Rose, ‘Victorias Secret Angel’ Chanel Iman, singer-songwriter and former model Tinashe, record producer DJ Khaled, actress Zendaya, and singer-songwriter Jason Derulo.
‘America’s Next Top Model’ cycle 23 is scheduled to premiere on December 12, 2016 on VH1. The reboot will follow the series’ original format of an all-female contest and will be hosted by Rita Ora.
