Ami Brown, the matriarch of the “Alaskan Bush People” clan, is now cancer-free but the road to her recovery was not easy. She battled the deadly disease for two years, and at one point, doctors declared that she had a survival rate of less than 10 percent. But still, she fought on and won her battle.
Ami Brown was first diagnosed with the disease in 2016, and it was weeks before they confirmed that it was lung cancer that already affected both of her lungs. Plus, the tests showed that she was already in stage 3. With her diagnosis, the Brown family was forced out of their wilderness home and moved to Southern California so that Ami could get treatments. She was confined at the UCLA hospital and underwent chemotherapy.
By this time, she already lost a lot of weight and was hooked up to a feeding tube so she could survive. With her condition, Ami Brown did not give up and continued to fight. In mid-2017, reports swirled that the Brown matriarch was already in her deathbed, and photos of her gaunt appearance circulated online.
Fans were worried about her but the Brown family debunked the rumors and said that Ami Brown was still alive and fighting. By November 2017, it was reported that she was already in remission. It was a miracle since doctors announced to the family that with her worsened condition, her chance of survival was very slim.
The Brown family still made sure that Ami would get the treatment she needed to ensure that the cancer would not be back. However, in early 2018, it was said that the tumor really came back so she underwent chemo. Now, months after, she is cancer-free again.
Doctors warned Ami Brown that the disease could return once again and attack another part of her body. But even so, she is determined to get healthy and live her life to the fullest.
In the family’s recent interview with Country Living, Ami Brown’s children shared how they coped with their mother’s battle with cancer. Although it was hard for them, they bonded and overcame the struggles and supported their mom until she recovered.
Ami Brown’s husband, Billy, commented on his wife’s miraculous recovery. He told the magazine, “Ami didn’t realize just how bad it really was. She’s so much better now, it’s unbelievable.”
