Google’s next major Android update, currently dubbed Android P, just had its final preview update this week. This only means that its full version will be released to the public very soon.
The final preview update, or Android P Beta 4, went live last Wednesday and has started to roll out to compatible devices. However, everyone trying Android P Beta 4 should keep in mind that it is not the full version of the update, so issues and glitches are possibly still present.
Notably, however, Google’s VP of engineering, Dave Burke, implied that Android P Beta 4 is the closest version to the full release of Android P that beta testers can try. In a blog post on Wednesday, Burke promised, “Beta 4 update includes a release candidate build with final system behaviors.”
“Final system behaviors” obviously means that Android P Beta 4 is a very close build to the full version of the update to be released in the coming weeks. As usual, Google has refrained from giving a specific release date for Android P. But Burke did say that they are targeting to roll out the full Android P version “later this summer.”
While beta testers are encouraged to install Android P Beta 4 with caution, Google apparently did not list issues and bugs when it announced the final preview update. This could add more confidence among tech fans in the quality of the final beta version.
To have access to Android P Beta 4, testers will have to be enrolled in the Android Beta Program. Aside from the enrolling in the program, people are also required to use the listed compatible phones for Android P beta, including all Google Pixel models and more.
Meanwhile, the release of the full Android P version is greatly dependent on smartphone manufacturers. In this case, Google Pixel owners are the luckiest bunch. Meanwhile, Android smartphone users will have to wait for an announcement from their smartphone manufacturers regarding the availability of Android P.
