Apple recently released two iOS updates, with the first one leaving many users confused. The iOS 10.2.1 update, Gordon Kelly for Forbes said, was released following several betas and around six weeks of public testing. Although essential, he notes that the update is infuriating, more so now that iOS 10.3 was also released.
The Apple iOS 10.2.1, which is for all iOS 10-compatible iPhone, iPad, iPad mini, iPad Pro range units (or later), is, as we quote, a bug fix. The update also does not come with the usual “performance enhancements” reference typically included in most Apple updates. Also, this bug fix does not solve the 30% battery bug, wherein an Apple device shuts down at 30% battery. The bug fix, however, would fix two security holes that would put an Apple device at risk of a hacker taking full control.
Kelly quotes JP Taggart, senior security researcher at Malwarebytes, who said, “[Hackers] can add files, delete files, or execute any actions,” explained JP Taggart, senior security researcher at Malwarebytes. “Want to record conversations and forward them to someone else? It can do that. Want to install additional malicious software? It can do that. Want to uninstall programs on the affected phone? It can do that. Want to hide these actions, programs and files from the user? It can do that too.”
The iOS 10.3 upgrade is something to look forward to, BGR reported. The update includes user-facing features including Find My AirPods, which allows you to track the accessory should it get lost; ability to quickly access and display all Apple devices a user is signed in; a floating, one-handed iPad keyboard that can be dragged about or placed anywhere, and a new Apple File System (APFS) for NAND flash storage and to support a stronger data encryption.
For developers, the beta 1 version for iOS 10.3 will give them remote access to update their apps without a full app update, 9 to 5 Mac reported.
