The much-anticipated “Attack on Titan” Season 3 premiere is coming today, July 23, for those sharing the Japanese timezone, and July 22, for anyone else in the western hemisphere. The show's release on Toonami will be a bit delayed, premiering on Cartoon Network's service on Aug. 18 but with assured English dubs.
While everyone's excited for the upcoming third season, true fans know that this won't be the first time that the first episode premieres. “Attack on Titan” season 3 episode 1 has already premiered at the Anime Expo in Los Angeles last July 8, and on Crunchyroll and Hulu last July 10 and 11. Both of the previous episode premieres featured Japanese voices with English subtitles. Still, July 22 and 23 mark the season's official premiere dates, with Episode 2 to follow closely on July 30, a week after the first episode.
The upcoming third season has also been confirmed to be a full-house 24-episode installment by the show's official Twitter page. This extended episode count comes as a boon after the 12-episode season 2 release that came out a year ago. While “Attack on Titan” season 3 is coming within a year after the second season, the show's second season was preceded by a two-year drought of the show, which greatly emphasizes the anticipation for the third season.
“Attack on Titan” season 3 is set to answer questions that the second season has left most viewers with. Who is the Beast Titan? Why did Historia hide under the identity of Christa? Will the scouts get new team members to replace those lost in Season 2? And why are the walls Titans themselves? These are all confusing questions that a 24-episode season of “Attack on Titan” can hopefully wrap up nicely before sending us on to hopefully a fourth season.
