BYD’s entry into the luxury EV market with the Denza Z9 GT, a 1,000 HP beast, is set to challenge Porsche’s dominance as pre-sales start on August 20.
BYD Partners with Mercedes-Benz for Luxury EVs
The new flagship GT from China's top electric vehicle manufacturer aims to capture a portion of the luxury market. The Denza Z9 GT will compete with high-end manufacturers such as BMW and Porsche. Its official debut is less than two weeks away, continuing BYD's EV launch frenzy.
In 2010, BYD and Mercedes-Benz established Denza as a 50/50 joint company. By acquiring a 90% interest in 2022, BYD further strengthened its influence.
This follows an announcement in 2023 that eight additional cars will be released by 2026. There are three available models: the D9 MPV, the N7 and N8, two SUVs.
Next on the agenda is Denza's premier GT. The Z9 GT will formally be unveiled on August 20, 2024, according to CarNewsChina. Beginning on that day, pre-sales will commence, with deliveries anticipated to be completed by the year's end.
Denza Z9 GT: BYD’s 1,000 HP Powerhouse
At the Beijing Auto Show in April, the Denza brand, which is owned by BYD, introduced the Z9 GT. With its three motors producing roughly 1,000 hp, the flagship electric GT is powered by BYD's new e-Platform 3.0. Speeds from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) may be achieved in less than 3 seconds, thanks to all that power.
Comparable in size to a Porsche Panamera GTS (5,053 mm long, 1,937 mm wide, 1,417 mm tall), Denza's new Z9 GT measures 5,180 mm in length, 1,990 mm in width and 1,500 mm in height.
A three-screen arrangement resembling the N7's with separate screens for the driver, infotainment, and passengers is anticipated for the cabin.
According to Electrek, in anticipation of their imminent release, Denza revealed that Z9 GT units had begun making their way to dealerships. On August 20, we should see the official specifications and pre-sale pricing announced.
In the midst of BYD's electric vehicle launch frenzy, the Denza Z9 GT has arrived. In response to Tesla's Model 3, BYD unveiled their upgraded 2025 Seal EV on Thursday, which has LiDAR, among other features.
With prices beginning at less than $25,000, BYD's new Seal is nearly $10,000 cheaper than Tesla's Model 3 in China. Can the Denza Z9 GT hold its own against Tesla's Model S? The base price of a Tesla Model S in China is $684,900 (or $95,900).
BYD’s Luxury EV Debut Slated for August 20
In China, the base price of the tri-motor 1,020 hp Tesla Model S Plaid is $113,700 (814,900). The pricing comparison of BYD's new flagship GT will be intriguing to observe. Stay tuned for more information in the near future.
