‘Bates Motel’ season 5’s episode 7, titled “Inseparable,” will feature more trouble ahead for Norman as the authorities find more dead bodies. Meanwhile, Dylan is set to return home after learning Norma’s death.
The short synopsis for episode 7 posted on TV Guide reads, “Norman (Freddie Highmore) and Mother (Vera Farmiga) come together as trouble looms large; Romero (Nestor Carbonell) convalesces with the help of an old friend; Dylan (Max Thieriot) comes home.”
Norman’s life is set to get more complicated in the upcoming episode when he is told that the authorities have uncovered more dead bodies around his surrounding area. The promo opens to the anti-hero standing over his latest victim’s body.
In the next scene, Sheriff Jane Greene (Brooke Smith) and Norman bump into each other outside. “Hope I didn’t catch you at a bad time,” she tells Norman suspiciously. Norman then fumbles while replying, “Oh no, no, no trouble at all.”
Sheriff Jane then informs him that they found multiple bodies. One scene shows the police pulling a corpse from out of the water.
Meanwhile, Dylan is seen offering Madeleine (Isabelle McNally) some assistance after she tells him that her husband Sam Loomis (Austin Nichols) has gone missing. Dylan is set to return home after learning of Norma’s death.
Mother and Norman are also seen lugging Sam’s dead body across the snow-covered ground, presumably into the woods, as they attempt to cover up Norman’s crime. Norman then considers confessing to the police but Mother replies with amusement, “You have a lot to learn, Norman.”
In the previous episode, titled “Marion,” Norman killed Sam after some prodding from Mother. The Marion-centric episode feature the much-anticipated performance of Rihanna as the iconic titular character from the 1960 film ‘Psycho,’ directed by Sir Alfred Hitchcock.
Although Rihanna’s character from the original film suffered a grim fate in one of cinema’s most infamous shower scenes, it was Nichols’ Sam that took the multiple knife stabbing instead.
During an interview with Variety, executive producer Kerry Ehrin admitted that it wasn’t their initial intention to let Marion get away unharmed. Ehrin explained, “We tried out every possible scenario. We landed on the one that got us the most excited in the room and had the most impact, and both honored “Psycho” and pushed the story we were telling in “Bates Motel.”
Ehrin continued, “It’s telling the story of Norman and what’s going on inside of him and pushed it to a great place by having him kill Sam, who in many ways is a psychological stand-in for his own father.”
Co-executive producer Carlton Cuse added, “There was no way to redefine Marion Crane as a modern empowered woman if we killed her in the shower.”
When asked if Norman will become more violent in the subsequent episodes, Cuse revealed, “Yes. I think that the thing about this episode is that it’s very intentional that Norman kills Sam as Norman and not in drag (as Mother).”
Cuse continued, “He’s conscious of his action. That represents a real evolution for the character. The character is caught between his increasingly violent tendencies and desires and his own perception of the world spinning out of control… I’m speaking vaguely to not spoil anything, but Norman is definitely progressing towards the end of the season.”
‘Bates Motel’ season 5’s episode 7, titled “Inseparable,” is scheduled to air on A&E on April 3, 2017. The episode was written by the show’s very own Freddie Highmore and directed by Steph Green. It will be followed by episode 8, titled "The Body," directed by Highmore and scheduled to be released on April 10.
