The video game industry is full of touching moments where the plight of players reached the hearts of publishers and developers, and the case with Bethesda’s latest tribute is a great example of this. Upon hearing about a player’s painful experience regarding the deaths of loved ones, the developers decided to create a character dedicated to the fan in the last “Fallout 4” DLC called “Nuka-World.”
In the latest expansion of the popular 4th numbered installment in the hit post-apocalyptic franchise, Bethesda added a character named “Evan,” Forbes reports; or as the internet has taken to calling him, “Good Guy Evan.” He is the company’s way of immortalizing the brother of a player who died due to complications with diabetes. The brother’s name was also “Evan” and even though he was taken to the ICU when his illness started acting up, he passed away nevertheless.
“Good Guy Evan” can be found sitting on top of a trailer all the way south of the new area opened by the DLC. The character is voiced to give off a feeling of optimistic cheer, which officially made him the most good-natured person in the Fallout universe. Caring and selfless, “Good Guy Evan” even tells players to take whatever they want from his trailer and even gives out supplies for free.
The whole thing started two months ago when Reddit user NoohjXLVII made a post detailing the difficult time he was going through. His father passed away a year before and not long after, his brother died as well. In the post, NoohjXLVII explained how “Fallout 4” helped him get through the tough times.
The touching story obviously reached the company behind the game and they responded in true Bethesda fashion. NoohjXLVII clearly approves of how his brother’s in-game counterpart was presented, saying that the real Evan was exactly the same.
