“Better Call Saul” season 6 is possibly the final installment for the prequel series based on the popular crime drama “Breaking Bad.” If that would be the case, the franchise could wrap up in 2021.

First, it is important to note that the fifth season of the prequel series is still in production and is unlikely to air until 2020. However, talks that “Better Call Saul” season 6 is the last installment was sparked by a recent interview of Giancarlo Esposito, who plays Gus Fring both in the original and prequel series.

It would not be surprising for “Better Call Saul” to end in the coming years given that it is a prequel series. And when asked about the show’s future, Esposito said “Better Call Saul” season 6 feels like a good time to wrap up their story. "There will be six seasons," Esposito told Collider. "It seems like that's the way, the comfortable way, to end this show."

Esposito also recalled that “Breaking Bad” co-creator Vince Gilligan had planned for the original series to only go for five seasons. While the show is recorded as having only five installments, season 5 had the most episode count and was divided into two parts making its 2013 premiere somewhat served as a sixth season.

“Better Call Saul” season 5 will pick up from Bob Odenkirk’s Jimmy McGill beginning to embrace his Saul Goodman identity. After winning his appeal to regain his license to practice law, Jimmy declared he would not be using his name moving forward. After a very surprised Kim (Rhea Seehorn) ask what is happening, Jimmy excitedly replied, “It’s all good, man!” — an obvious wordplay for the name Saul Goodman.

With Saul Goodman entering the scenes in 2020, Esposito’s statement that the prequel series ending in “Better Call Saul” season 6 is possible. With the pattern of having one season per year, the show is then likely to conclude by 2021. However, AMC has yet to confirm nor dismiss it while sources of THR said the producers have yet to finalize the future of the show.
