BioWare general manager Gary McKay released a blog post on Thursday greeting fans for a new year and providing some updates on its upcoming games. As for the “Mass Effect 5,” or whatever the game is going to be called, McKay said players could look back on the poster released last N7 Day for more clues.
Much of the blog post tackled the challenges BioWare faced with its development goals amid a pandemic. McKay also took note of the positive response to the “Mass Effect Legendary Edition,” saying there has been an “insanely positive” feedback to the collection of remastered “Mass Effect” trilogy.
Looking ahead, McKay assured fans that BioWare is working hard on a couple of major projects. The studio has confirmed it is developing the next main series installments for “Mass Effect” and “Dragon Age.”
The BioWare GM did not provide any specific update about “Mass Effect 5,” but only hinted at a few clues present in the latest poster released last Nov. 7. “If you look closely, there are a handful of hidden treats; by my count, there are at least five surprises, all of which point to an amazing future in the Mass Effect universe,” McKay said.
We have another #N7Day surprise for you from the team working on the next Mass Effect. ????

While McKay said the clues say something about the future of the franchise, it is very likely that some of them also provide more insight into the possible plot of “Mass Effect 5.” GamesRadar analyzed the said poster and the biggest possible takeaway is that BioWare may have chosen to make the Destroy ending from “Mass Effect 3” a canon storyline. And it could be the point from where the next game would pick up. The same report noted that the crater in the poster looks like a destroyed Mass Relay and that there also appears to be a dead geth in the image — all pointing to the Destroy ending becoming a canon plot.
The BioWare boss also assured fans that veteran developers are working on the next “Dragon Age” and added, “We are focused on a single-player experience that is built on choices that matter.” However, McKay did not mention any hints at the launch windows of “Mass Effect 5” and the new “Dragon Age.”
