Bitcoin Foundation appoints new executive director

The Bitcoin Foundation has announced on Monday the appointment of Llew Claasen as executive director during Blockchain Training Conference at Toronto.

Claasen will swear-in as the executive direction from July 1. He said that he is looking forward to talk to corporations, developers and individual members. Elected by a board of directors on June 14, he has many years of international tech experience and project management skills.

“I’m looking forward to leading the Bitcoin Foundation going forward.  There is an amazing opportunity for the organization to help the Bitcoin ecosystem.  In the coming weeks I’ll be working closely with the board, membership, transition team and various stakeholders to create the best plan for success possible,” Claasen said.

According to the website, Claasen replaces the outgoing executive director Bruce Fenton. “I’m thrilled that Llew was appointed to this role, we think his skill set is exactly what is needed now,” Fenton stated. Fenton chose to close his term as executive director last month and will remain as a board member.

Bitcoin Foundation’s board members include Bobby Lee of BTCC, Elizabeth McCauley of Coinsecure, Brock Pierce of Blockchain Capital, Vinny Lingham of Civic, Michael Perklin of C4 and Francis Pouliot of Satoshi Portal.

Welcoming new executive director to the team, “I think Claasen will be a perfect fit for the organization as we build on the significant progress we have made,” board member Vinny Lingham said. Reflecting   Lingham’s views, “Llew’s project management skills, geographic location and emerging markets experience are all huge advantages and we are all very happy that he has accepted this position,” board chair Brock Pierce said.

Founded in 2012, Bitcoin Foundation is an American nonprofit corporation. The foundation is an organization dedicated to helping advance bitcoin through advocacy, education and support of adoption and core development. The foundation has a strong base of volunteers including 100 percent member-elected board.
