Bitcoin Posts 42.7% Q3 Gain as ‘Uptober’ Begins Amid Crypto Turmoil

Bitcoin Posts 42.7% Q3 Gain as ‘Uptober’ Begins Amid Crypto Turmoil.

Bitcoin ended the third quarter with a 42.71% gain, while September broke its historically weak pattern with a 6.33% increase, according to CoinGlass. The strong performance puts attention on “Uptober,” a month that has historically delivered an average Bitcoin return of 18.52% and recorded only three negative closes.

However, Bitcoin’s bullish seasonality comes as the cryptocurrency industry faces growing security and financial risks. Hackers stole $766.49 million from crypto companies in September, a 462% increase from August, highlighting mounting pressure on digital asset infrastructure.

BitMart has also acknowledged in court that it is insolvent, disclosing a $319.5 million balance-sheet deficit that had allegedly remained concealed since 2021. Following panic withdrawals, affected customers are expected to receive Restitution and Continuum tokens under the exchange’s recovery plan.

Elsewhere, MetaMask suffered an incident in which rewards from 18 validators were redirected. The Grayscale Zcash ETF recorded $30.25 million in outflows, while ZEC liquidations reached $14.55 million.

Regulatory uncertainty is another issue facing crypto markets. SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce is leaving the agency on October 2, reducing the commission to two sitting members ahead of the October 20 comment deadline for the Regulation of Crypto Assets.

Traders are now watching whether Bitcoin can defend the $82,000-$83,000 range after ETF outflows, with U.S. Treasury yields above 5.3% and the dollar remaining strong. Other key developments include confirmation of Ripple’s re-escrow of most of its 1 billion XRP release, Bitget reopening withdrawals and BitMart’s largest clients responding to its restructuring proposal.

On-chain activity is also attracting attention, including Robinhood Chain volumes above $2 billion and more than 80% XRPL validator support for Permission Delegation and Batch amendments.

October began without a major shift in market conditions. Bitcoin’s attempt to break $85,000 stalled amid bond-market pressure, but XRP-related developments—including a $15 billion RWA pilot with CSD BR, Cryptex ETF inclusion and 10 million AI-agent payments through t54—are keeping attention on blockchain fundamentals as crypto markets enter historically strong Uptober territory.
