‘Blade Runner 2’ is currently filming in Hungary. It was recently reported that a yet unnamed construction worker was killed after a structure he was working on collapsed on him.
According to Gizmodo, a 28-year old construction worker met his demise after a structure that he worked on in the Hungary filming set suddenly collapsed. He was reportedly taking apart one of the sets when it caved in on him. Although the reason behind the collapse remains unknown, an Origo Studios spokesperson revealed that they are currently holding an investigation on the cause of the accident.
The statement sent by Origo Studios to The Hollywood Reporter read, "The worker was underneath a platform, upon which the set was constructed, when it suddenly collapsed. The cause of the accident is not yet known." The construction worker’s identity is yet to be revealed. Production for the film had recently wrapped filming in Budapest, with production in progress at the town of Etyek during the incident.
The upcoming sequel to Ridley Scott’s iconic 1982 neo-noir science-fiction film of the same name is directed by Denis Villeneuve. Villeneuve is a three-time winner of the Genie Award and is best known for his work on films such as ‘Maelstrom’, ‘Polytechnique’, and ‘Incendies’. He received international fame for his critically-acclaimed films such as the 2013 thriller ‘Prisoners’ as well as the 2015 crime-thriller and drama film ‘Sicario’.
Harrison Ford is returning to reprise his role as main protagonist Rick Deckard. In the original film, Rick was a special agent for Los Angeles department whose job was as a blade runner. He hunts down bioengineered androids called replicants after they’ve been banned from Earth.
Joining Ford in the new cast are Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Ana de Armas, Mackenzie Davis, Dave Bautista, Barkhad Abdi, and Robin Wright. Villeneuve directs a screenplay prepared by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green.
‘Blade Runner 2’ is an upcoming science-fiction film scheduled to be released on October 6, 2017. It is intended as the direct sequel to the 1982 cult favorite directed by Ridley Scott, which earned initial reactions among critics upon its release. It went on to become a science-fiction classic and was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 1993.
The upcoming sequel is produced by Warner Bros., Alcon Entertainment, 16:14 Entertainment, Scott Free Productions, Thunderbird Films, and Torridon Films.
