CHICAGO, ILL., March 8, 2016 -- The post-grant practice group at intellectual property law firm Brinks Gilson & Lione is launching a Post-Grant Patent blog that discusses current developments in post-grant proceedings at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
"In the nearly four years since the USPTO adopted the sweeping changes brought about by the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act (AIA), the rules and decisions in post-grant proceedings have offered valuable lessons for individuals and enterprises engaged in protecting and defending innovations subject to patents," said Brinks president James R. Sobieraj.
"We want to assist clients in understanding the implications of recent decisions, and share how developments in post-grant proceedings can be leveraged as part of a broader patent strategy," said practice group co-chair Miyoung Shin. Rickard DeMille, editor-in-chief of the blog, adds that "Brinks' Post-Grant Patent blog will supplement the client alerts and ongoing webinars related to post-grant practice that we already offer."
Brinks' Post-Grant Patent blog will provide timely news and analysis of current inter partes reviews (IPR), covered business method reviews (CBM), and post-grant reviews (PGR) before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), as well as of appeals of the PTAB's decisions in these proceedings to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Brinks attorneys have served as lead counsel in approximately 40 post-grant trials before the PTAB and several subsequent appeals to the Federal Circuit. The firm's post-grant practice group, which includes 55 attorneys, has significant experience in USPTO administrative proceedings, including inter partes reviews, covered business method reviews, re-examinations, and interferences.
