Bruno Fernandes’ supposed transfer to Manchester United is becoming more unlikely as the trade deadline draws near. The 24-year-old has been linked with United all summer long, and the narrative has been building in recent weeks, reaching new heights when Sporting lost to Benfica in a 5-0 collapse.
Following the loss, Sporting coach Marcel Keizer was asked by journalists about Bruno Fernandes’ transfer and said it’s not his place to decide the midfielder’s fate. Fernandes was supposed to undergo a medical exam with United last week, but that has been delayed.
While this isn’t a concrete proof that Bruno Fernandes will be staying with Sporting, it’s quite curious why United isn’t heavily gunning for the talented player. With a record of 32 goals and 13 assists during Sporting’s last season, one would think that the Red Devils would have snatched the midfielder by now.
Bruno Fernandes would be an excellent addition to Man Utd’s line up
This is especially true since the team’s midfield position is in dire need of help after Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini parted ways with United. The Reds only have three more days to make a move on Bruno Fernandes, but reports are coming in that the team isn’t all that interested in acquiring him, RTP reported.
In fact, the Portuguese outlet claims that United hasn’t even offered a deal to Sporting amidst all the rumors. United fans, of course, are fuming about the Red Devils’ seemingly lack of interest and have expressed their disappointment on social media. It’s for this reason that Italian sports journalist Gabriele Marcotti warned fans that they shouldn’t hold out hope that Bruno Fernandes will be playing on Old Trafford soon.
Bruno Fernandes not a priority for Man Utd
“I just think this is something where United, if they really wanted [Bruno Fernandes], would have pulled the trigger on this earlier. Certainly, from what I'm told, United don't view him necessarily as a priority,” Marcotti said.
What’s even more frustrating for fans is that Juventus’ Paulo Dybala will apparently not make the United roster as well. Similar to Bruno Fernandes, Dybala has been rumored all summer to join the Reds, but that hasn’t panned out either as the team cast doubts about the 25-year-old’s commitment to join the club, Express reported.
