Manchester United apparently hasn’t made any moves to acquire Bruno Fernandes as confirmed by a spokesperson of Sporting CP. Although the 24-year-old has been heavily rumored to be playing in Old Trafford soon, the deal between Man Utd and Sporting has yet to pan out even though the Premier League is just around the corner.
Supposedly, Man Utd has offered Sporting £62million (€70m) for Bruno Fernandes, but the aforementioned spokesperson said this is “false.” In fact, Man Utd hasn’t even made an offer for the talented midfielder.
Sporting itself has apparently assured Portuguese outlet RTP that no proposal has been made and that Bruno Fernandes is still with the team. With Sporting’s recent lost against Valencia and Fernandes being emotional on the field following the defeat, many assumed that his time with the team is over.
Bruno Fernandes’ deal may not pan out
The speculations were fanned further when Bruno Fernandes posted a video of his daughter with a lion and heart emoji. His wife captioned the post with “sempre,” which means “always.” It’s unclear what sort of message the caption embodies but multiple fans and outlets speculate it may hint at his exit.
But Italian sports journalists Gabriele Marcotti said that fans should be cautious about news surrounding Bruno Fernandes. Marcotti said that Utd not making any major maneuvers to land the midfielder is suspicious.
“I just think this is something where United, if they really wanted [Bruno Fernandes], would have pulled the trigger on this earlier. Certainly, from what I'm told, United don't view him necessarily as a priority,” Marcotti told ESPN (via Mirror).
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer isn’t prioritizing Bruno Fernandes
Utd’s silence is indeed baffling given that they need someone like Bruno Fernandes to fill the midfield position following the exit of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini. Fernandes was impressive in Sporting’s 2018-2019 run as he scored 31 points during that campaign. Having him fill the shoes of Fellaini and Herrera would be a no brainer for Utd.
But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears to be eyeing a different prospect. Apparently, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is the priority of the Red Devils, not Bruno Fernandes, Metro reported. United is supposedly trying to close a deal with Lazio to land the midfielder on a £90 million agreement. Of course, with no confirmation from either team, it’s best to take this one with a grain of salt as well.
