Burger King pledged to improve chicken welfare across its supply chain by 2026, following the Better Chicken Commitment (BCC) criteria.
According to the Compassion in World Farming (CIWF), the pledge follows recent news that Burger King is transitioning to cage-free eggs.
Burger King will now map out the introduction of the new BCC criteria across its UK operations.
Among the measures are using slower-growing breeds with better welfare outcomes and allocating more space and access to perches, pecking objects, and natural light to chickens.
Burger King joins a list of leading companies, including KFC (France), who have signed up to the BCC this month.
All BCC signatories recognize the importance of advancing welfare standards for chickens across the food industry.
Dr. Tracey Jones, Director of Food Business for CIWF, said they are pleased to see a notable high street brand like Burger King actively participate in improving chicken welfare across its business.
